Luke Cage, originally Carl Lucas, is a Marvel Comics character known as Power Man. He first appeared in Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1 (June 1972) during the Bronze Age of comics.
Wrongfully convicted of a crime, Carl Lucas volunteered for an experimental procedure while incarcerated. This experiment granted him superhuman strength and unbreakable skin, transforming him into the hero Luke Cage.
Operating primarily in Harlem, Luke Cage became a "hero for hire," using his powers for profit while often championing the downtrodden. He exists within the main Marvel Universe, designated as Earth-616.
