Biography:
Batgirl is a moniker adopted by several characters in DC Comics. The most recognized is Barbara Gordon, daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon. She first appeared in Detective Comics #359 (January 1967).
Inspired by Batman, Gordon donned a costume to fight crime independently. She is highly intelligent, possessing a photographic memory and extensive computer skills. Beyond her vigilante activities, Barbara works as a librarian and later as a U.S. Congresswoman.
A defining event in her history is the shooting by the Joker in The Killing Joke, which left her paralyzed. Following this, she adopted the identity of Oracle, a vital information broker and computer expert for the Batman Family and the Birds of Prey. Eventually, through surgery, she regained mobility and returned to the role of Batgirl.
