Batgirl is a superheroine appearing in DC Comics, most notably associated with Batman.
Several characters have adopted the Batgirl mantle, with Barbara Gordon being the most iconic. The daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon, Barbara is a brilliant and highly skilled woman who possesses exceptional intellect, athletic abilities, and martial arts training.
Motivated by a desire to fight crime and inspired by Batman, Barbara creates her own Batgirl costume and initially operates independently. She eventually becomes an ally of Batman and Robin, joining the Bat-Family.
In the iconic storyline The Killing Joke, Barbara is tragically shot by the Joker, resulting in paralysis. While initially retired from crime-fighting, Barbara later reinvents herself as Oracle, a brilliant computer expert and information broker assisting various heroes from behind the scenes.
In later continuity, Barbara recovers from her paralysis and resumes her role as Batgirl, continuing to protect Gotham City.
