CNY Spider-man
Basename:
Spider-man
Brand:
Outside Brick
Theme:
Marvel
Biography:
The Marvel character CNY Spider-Man, also known as Spider-Man India or Pavitr Prabhakar, is an alternate version of Spider-Man hailing from India. Created by Jeevan J. Kang, Sharad Devarajan, and Suresh Seetharaman, he debuted in 2004 in the limited series Spider-Man: India.
Pavitr Prabhakar is a poor Indian boy who lives in a village but is studying in Mumbai. He gains his spider-powers from an ancient yogi who grants him the abilities to fight evil. Unlike Peter Parker, Pavitr doesn't experience the death of Uncle Ben; instead, he learns responsibility after failing to stop a criminal from harming an innocent woman.
His powers are similar to the original Spider-Man, including super strength, agility, and the ability to stick to walls. Instead of mechanical web-shooters, Pavitr generates his webs organically. His costume is a traditional Indian dhoti-inspired design, and he faces villains unique to his universe, often with a mystical or demonic origin.
CNY Spider-Man is a unique and culturally relevant take on the Spider-Man mythos, offering a fresh perspective on the character's core values and challenges.
