Ryan Choi is the fourth character to take on the mantle of the Atom in DC Comics. He first appeared in *DC Special: Atom* #1 (2008).
Choi was a professor at Ivy Town University specializing in nanotechnology. He was contacted by the dying Ray Palmer, the previous Atom, who selected him to continue his legacy. Palmer sent him a belt containing white dwarf star matter that allowed him to shrink to subatomic sizes, much like Palmer's belt.
Choi embraced his role as the Atom and became a member of the Justice League. He used his scientific expertise and shrinking abilities to fight crime and protect the world. He tragically died during the Brightest Day storyline, but was eventually resurrected.
