Nightwing is the superhero identity adopted by Richard "Dick" Grayson in DC Comics. He originated as Batman's first Robin, debuting in Detective Comics #38 (1940).
After outgrowing the Robin persona, and to establish his own identity, Grayson left the role and became Nightwing. He took inspiration for his new name from a Kryptonian legend shared with him by Superman.
As Nightwing, Grayson operates as an independent hero, often protecting Blüdhaven, a city near Gotham. He is known for his acrobatic skills, martial arts prowess, and strong sense of justice. He sometimes operates with Batman and other members of the Bat-Family.
