Atrocitus, first appearing in Green Lantern Corps #25 (2008), is a central figure within the DC Universe as the leader of the Red Lantern Corps.
Born Atros of Sector 666, his rage stems from the massacre of his people, the inhabitants of planet Ryut, by the Manhunters, failed predecessors to the Green Lantern Corps. This trauma fueled an immense hatred for the Guardians of the Universe, whom he holds responsible.
Harnessing the red light of rage, Atrocitus forged the Red Lantern power battery on the planet Okaara and became the first Red Lantern. His power is fueled by his burning anger, granting him immense strength and the ability to project red energy constructs.
Driven by vengeance, Atrocitus has frequently clashed with the Green Lantern Corps, seeking to eradicate those he deems responsible for the destruction of his world and the suffering he endured.
