Knuckles the Echidna is a prominent character in the Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise. He debuted in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 1994, initially as an antagonist tricked by Dr. Robotnik (Eggman) into believing Sonic and Tails were a threat.

Knuckles is the guardian of the Master Emerald, a powerful gem that controls the Chaos Emeralds. He resides on Angel Island, a floating island in the sky. He is fiercely protective of the Master Emerald and his home.

Distinguished by his red fur, large fists equipped with spiked knuckles, and a serious demeanor, Knuckles possesses super strength and the ability to glide and climb walls. He is often portrayed as headstrong and independent.

Over time, Knuckles has evolved from adversary to ally, frequently teaming up with Sonic and Tails to combat Dr. Eggman's schemes. Although sometimes gullible, he is ultimately loyal and dependable. He is an integral part of the Sonic universe, appearing in numerous games, comics, and animated series.
