Mario, created by Nintendo, is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Mario franchise.

He is a portly, mustachioed plumber known for his jumping ability and red cap. His first appearance was in the arcade game *Donkey Kong* (1981), originally named Jumpman.

Mario is the star of many platforming games, including *Super Mario Bros.*, where he must rescue Princess Peach from Bowser, the King of the Koopas. Mario also appears in spin-off titles, such as *Mario Kart* games and numerous sports games.
