Mario, a fictional character created by Nintendo, is a globally recognized icon. He is primarily known as the protagonist of the Mario video game franchise, a flagship series for Nintendo.

Mario's first appearance was in the 1981 arcade game Donkey Kong, initially under the name "Jumpman." In this game, he was a carpenter tasked with rescuing Pauline from the titular Donkey Kong.

The character, now known as Mario, gained further prominence with the release of Mario Bros. in 1983. In this game, he appeared alongside his brother Luigi, battling creatures in the sewers of New York City. Mario's design, including his signature red cap and mustache, has been refined over the years but remains instantly recognizable.

Over the years, Mario has appeared in various media, most recently in the 2023 film, *The Super Mario Bros. Movie*, portrayed by Chris Pratt.
