Galactus is a cosmic entity in the Marvel Universe, known as the Devourer of Worlds.
Originally, Galactus was once a mortal named Galan from the planet Taa, before the Big Bang of the current universe. He merged with the Sentience of the Universe and the energies of the expiring universe during its final moments, being reborn as Galactus within an egg.
Galactus requires planetary energy to sustain his existence, consuming entire worlds to avoid starvation. This necessity places him in conflict with various heroes and civilizations across the galaxy.
Galactus first appeared in Fantastic Four #48 in March 1966.
