Galactus is a cosmic entity in the Marvel Universe, known for his insatiable hunger and consumption of planets. He is a being of immense power and is considered a fundamental force of the universe, predating nearly all life as we know it.
Galactus first appeared in Fantastic Four #48 (March 1966). He was not born in the conventional sense; he originated as Galan, a space explorer from a dying universe before the Big Bang of the current Marvel reality. He merged with the Sentience of the Universe during this cataclysm, transforming into the entity Galactus.
Driven by a biological imperative to consume energy, Galactus requires planetary life forces to sustain himself. He often employs heralds, such as the Silver Surfer, to seek out suitable planets for him to devour. His existence is a cosmic paradox, as he is both a destroyer and a necessary component of the universe's balance.
