Galactus is a cosmic entity in the Marvel universe, often depicted as a being of immense power and a fundamental force of nature. He is most well known for being a planet devouring entity.
Galactus's origin traces back to the being Galan of Taa, who existed in the universe before the Big Bang. During the cataclysmic event that birthed the current universe, Galan merged with the Sentience of the Universe and the energies of the dying cosmos, transforming into Galactus. His first appearance was in *Fantastic Four* #48 (March 1966).
Driven by an insatiable hunger, Galactus consumes the energy of planets to sustain himself. This act has led him to be viewed as a destroyer by many civilizations, while others acknowledge him as a necessary evil, as his existence prevents the emergence of an even greater threat.
The character has appeared in several animated television series. Typically these versions portray Galactus as a giant, armored humanoid figure, radiating cosmic energy.
