Biography:
Jawas are diminutive, hooded scavengers native to the desert planet Tatooine, first appearing in *Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope* (1977). Part of the Original Trilogy, they are characterized by their raspy voices and glowing yellow eyes peering from within the shadows of their brown robes.
They travel the deserts in large, treaded vehicles called sandcrawlers, scouring for discarded technology and droids, which they then repair (often poorly) and sell. Their language consists primarily of guttural noises and translated for human audiences as basic (english).
Jawas have a reputation for being opportunistic and sometimes untrustworthy traders. They are instrumental in setting the events of *A New Hope* in motion by capturing R2-D2, leading Luke Skywalker to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
