Darth Vader is a central character in the Star Wars saga, first appearing in the 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (later retitled). He is portrayed as a towering, imposing figure clad in black armor, a mask, and a breathing apparatus.

Initially presented as a powerful enforcer of the Galactic Empire, Darth Vader serves as the primary antagonist, carrying out the orders of Emperor Palpatine and suppressing rebellions throughout the galaxy. He wields a red lightsaber and commands a squadron of elite Stormtroopers.
