Gandalf the White first appears in Middle Earth in J.R.R. Tolkien's *The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers*. He is the resurrected form of Gandalf the Grey. After sacrificing himself in the Mines of Moria to defeat the Balrog, he is sent back to Middle-earth with enhanced power and authority.
As Gandalf the White, he is no longer simply an advisor and guide, but a leader capable of wielding greater power against the forces of darkness. He is a member of the Istari, an order of wizards sent to Middle-earth to aid in the fight against Sauron.
Gandalf the White's primary mission is to break Saruman's hold over Rohan and lead the Free Peoples in the War of the Ring. He is instrumental in rallying the Rohirrim and Gondor to fight against Sauron's armies, ultimately playing a crucial role in the final victory.
