Galactus is a cosmic entity from the Marvel Universe, known for his insatiable hunger. He devours planets to sustain his immense power.
Originally, Galactus was a mortal humanoid named Galan from the planet Taa, which existed in a previous universe. When that universe met its end in a "cosmic egg", Galan merged with the Sentience of the Universe and was reborn as Galactus in the newly formed Marvel Universe.
Galactus first appeared in Fantastic Four #48 (March 1966).
He requires vast amounts of energy to survive and is often depicted as a force of nature rather than a purely malevolent being.
