Nightwing, originally known as Dick Grayson, is a prominent character in DC Comics lore. Created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson, he first appeared as Robin in *Detective Comics* #38 (1940).

Initially Batman's first sidekick, Dick Grayson eventually outgrew the role of Robin. As he matured, he sought to establish his own identity, leading to his adoption of the Nightwing persona. The name Nightwing was inspired by a Kryptonian legend Superman told him.
