Mario is a fictional character created by Nintendo, primarily known for his appearances in their video games. He debuted as "Jumpman" in the 1981 arcade game, *Donkey Kong*, before gaining his own franchise with the release of *Mario Bros.* in 1983.

Mario is typically depicted as a short, stout Italian plumber residing in the Mushroom Kingdom. He is often tasked with rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser, the King of the Koopas.

A key element of the core Game experience is Mario's ability to jump and stomp on enemies. Throughout his many Game appearances, he acquires various power-ups that grant him new abilities, such as the Super Mushroom for increased size, the Fire Flower for projectile attacks, and the Super Star for temporary invincibility. Mario's sidekick and younger brother is Luigi.
