Daenerys Targaryen, a fictional character, first appears in the HBO TV Show *Game of Thrones*, season 1, episode 1, "Winter Is Coming."
She is portrayed as the exiled daughter of Aerys II Targaryen, the "Mad King," the last Targaryen to rule Westeros before being overthrown. Initially timid and under the control of her brother Viserys, Daenerys is sold into marriage to Khal Drogo, a powerful Dothraki warlord.
