Daenerys Targaryen, portrayed by Emilia Clarke, is a central character in the HBO television series Game of Thrones. She first appears in the series premiere, "Winter Is Coming," as a young, naive woman living in exile.

Daenerys is a member of House Targaryen, the former ruling dynasty of Westeros, and is the younger sister of Rhaegar Targaryen and Viserys Targaryen. She is often referred to as "Dany" by those closest to her.

Initially sold into marriage to the Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo, Daenerys undergoes a significant transformation. She learns to assert herself, embraces her Targaryen heritage, and becomes a powerful leader. After Drogo's death, she hatches three dragon eggs, becoming the "Mother of Dragons."

Daenerys dedicates herself to abolishing slavery, conquering cities across Essos, and building an army to reclaim the Iron Throne of Westeros, believing it to be her birthright. Her journey is marked by both acts of liberation and increasing ruthlessness.
