Ghost Rider is a supernatural antihero appearing in Marvel Comics, first appearing in Marvel Spotlight #5 (August 1972). While the name has been adopted by several characters, it most commonly refers to Johnny Blaze.

Johnny Blaze made a deal with the demon Mephisto to save his adoptive father Crash Simpson from cancer. As a result, Blaze was bound to the Spirit of Vengeance, Zarathos. At night, or when near evil, Blaze transforms into Ghost Rider, a skeletal figure engulfed in hellfire, riding a flaming motorcycle. Ghost Rider is driven by a desire to punish the wicked.

Ghost Rider possesses superhuman strength, speed, and durability, along with the ability to control hellfire and wield the Penance Stare, which forces wrongdoers to experience the pain they have inflicted on others.
