Biography:
Bane first appeared in DC Comics' *Batman: Vengeance of Bane* #1 (January 1993). He is best known as the villain who broke Batman's back, crippling him and taking over Gotham City.

Born in the Peña Duro prison on Santa Prisca, Bane spent his childhood incarcerated, paying for his father's crimes. He was subjected to brutal conditions and experiments.

He developed exceptional strength and intellect within the prison. Bane became addicted to Venom, a super-steroid that grants immense power but has severe side effects. When properly supplied, this drug increases his strength to superhuman levels.

Driven by the prophecy that he would liberate Santa Prisca, Bane eventually escaped and set his sights on Gotham. He viewed Batman as a worthy adversary to be defeated, not merely killed.
