Bane is a supervillain appearing in DC Comics, primarily known as an adversary of Batman. He first appeared in *Batman: Vengeance of Bane* #1 (January 1993).

Born in the Peña Duro prison on Santa Prisca, Bane inherited his father's life sentence. He endured brutal conditions and constant experimentation, developing both immense physical strength and cunning intellect. He eventually became a subject for the drug Venom.

Venom significantly enhanced Bane's strength and size, but required constant administration to maintain its effects. Escaping Peña Duro, Bane targeted Gotham City, systematically weakening Batman before confronting and breaking his back, famously "breaking the bat".

Bane's history has been adapted across various media, solidifying his position as one of Batman's most formidable and iconic foes.
