Kaine Parker, also known as Scarlet Spider and Crimson Spider, is a complex character from Marvel Comics. He first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #119 (December 1994) as a villain, but he eventually evolved into a heroic figure.
Kaine is the first, and most physically imperfect, attempt by the Jackal to clone Peter Parker (Spider-Man). Due to the flawed cloning process, Kaine possesses several enhanced abilities similar to Spider-Man but with significant differences. He has enhanced strength, speed, and agility, but also suffers from cellular degeneration that causes scarring and pain. His "Mark of Kaine" is a burning touch that leaves a distinctive spider-like mark on victims.
Initially driven by rage and instability, Kaine targeted both Spider-Man and those he perceived as harming Peter Parker's life. However, over time, Kaine sought redemption. He eventually took on the mantle of Scarlet Spider in Houston, Texas, striving to become a hero and protect the innocent, even if it meant battling his own violent tendencies. Later, he also assumed the identity of Spider-Man for a time.
