Warren Kenneth Worthington is Archangel, a mutant superhero associated with the X-Men. Born with large feathered wings, he is a member of the mutant species Homo superior.
Warren's mutant power of flight manifested during his adolescence. He originally hid his wings, believing them to be a freak mutation. He first appeared as a hero in the comic X-Men #1, created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby and published in September 1963.
Initially called Angel, he was one of the five original X-Men, alongside Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, and Iceman. He later became Archangel after a traumatic transformation involving Apocalypse, where his organic wings were replaced with techno-organic metal wings.
