Biography:
The Jiangshi, often translated as "Chinese hopping vampire" or "Chinese zombie," is a reanimated corpse in Chinese folklore. They are a common staple of Hong Kong horror and comedy films.
One of the most recognizable depictions of Jiangshi in film is in the 1985 movie, *Mr. Vampire*. This film popularized many of the characteristics associated with Jiangshi in popular culture, including their stiff limbs which force them to hop, their outstretched arms, and their aversion to things like sticky rice and specific incantations.
Often portrayed as malevolent creatures who kill humans to absorb their life essence, they can sometimes be controlled or subdued using talismans or by holding one's breath.
A common variation often seen is a small child Jiangshi, sometimes referred to as Little Chinese Vampire with Charm (Red), a comedic addition often seen wearing traditional clothing.
