Biography:
The Jiangshi, often translated as "hopping vampire" or "Chinese hopping vampire," is a type of reanimated corpse in Chinese folklore and sometimes depicted in movies and TV. These creatures are distinct from Western vampires or zombies.
One notable appearance in film is in the 1985 Hong Kong movie, *Mr. Vampire*. This film helped popularize the Jiangshi in modern media. *Mr. Vampire* depicts the Jiangshi as a stiff, decaying corpse that moves by hopping, with its arms outstretched.
In *Mr. Vampire*, and subsequent films featuring the creature, the Jiangshi's primary weakness is a paper talisman stuck to its forehead. This talisman can immobilize the Jiangshi. Other methods of defense often involve holding one's breath, using mirrors to scare them, or utilizing items such as glutinous rice.
