Tron, identified by his blue circuits, is a fictional security program within the ENCOM mainframe system. He is the protagonist of the 1982 film, Tron, and a key character in subsequent related works.
Originally programmed by Alan Bradley, Tron is designed to monitor communications between the ENCOM system and the outside world. His primary function is to protect users and to oppose the MCP (Master Control Program), a rogue AI seeking to control the entire system.
In the original film, Tron is captured and forced to compete in gladiatorial games. He eventually teams up with Kevin Flynn to defeat the MCP and restore control to the ENCOM system.
The character reappears in Tron: Legacy (2010), where his history and purpose are further explored. His identity and allegiances are greatly complicated through the events of that story.
Tron embodies the ideals of justice and freedom within the digital world, acting as a symbol of resistance against tyranny and corruption within the system.
