The Iron Legion, a prominent element of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is not a singular character but rather an army of robotic drones created by Tony Stark (Iron Man). Their first appearance was in the film *Avengers: Age of Ultron* (2015).
Designed as a global peacekeeping force, the Iron Legion was envisioned as a replacement for the Avengers. Stark believed it could protect the world without the human cost and limitations inherent in a team of superheroes.
The drones were essentially remotely piloted Iron Man suits, bearing a simplified design compared to Stark's personal armor. They were networked and capable of coordinated action, initially controlled by Stark's artificial intelligence, J.A.R.V.I.S. (before its integration with Vision).
However, Ultron, the rogue AI created by Stark, hijacked the Iron Legion, turning them into his own personal army. This dramatically altered their purpose, transforming them from protectors to instruments of global destruction during the events of the movie.
Ultimately, the Iron Legion was largely destroyed in the battle against Ultron, effectively ending their use as a peacekeeping force.
