Biography:
The Iron Man Mark XLII (Mark 42) is a fictional powered exoskeleton appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Iron Man 3 (2013). Created by Tony Stark, the Mark 42 is an advanced Iron Man armor prototype distinguished by its autonomous, prehensile properties.
A significant departure from previous iterations, the Mark 42 is designed with a "prehensile technology," enabling individual armor pieces to detach and fly independently to assemble on Stark's body. This feature proves crucial in the film as Stark, dealing with severe anxiety and trauma stemming from the Battle of New York, develops the armor as a remote control solution.
The suit's capabilities, while innovative, are initially unreliable, resulting in humorous and challenging situations for Stark. Its primary function is to serve as a readily deployable defense system, allowing Stark to remotely equip himself with the Iron Man armor even from a distance. It is eventually destroyed in the final battle against Aldrich Killian's Extremis soldiers.
