Michael Morbius, often known as Morbius, is a tragic anti-hero from Marvel Comics' Silver Age.
Debuting in The Amazing Spider-Man #101 (October 1971), Dr. Michael Morbius was a brilliant biochemist suffering from a rare blood disease.
In a desperate attempt to cure himself, Morbius subjected himself to an experimental treatment involving vampire bats and electroshock therapy. While the experiment initially seemed to work, it had unforeseen consequences, transforming him into a pseudo-vampire.
Morbius gained superhuman strength, speed, and senses, as well as fangs and a thirst for blood. He is not a true vampire in the traditional sense, but rather a living being with vampire-like abilities and weaknesses, such as a vulnerability to sunlight.
Haunted by his condition and the need to consume blood to survive, Morbius strives to control his impulses and often finds himself caught between his humanity and his monstrous urges. He has at times been both an adversary and an ally to Spider-Man.
