Brian Braddock, known as Captain Britain, is a Marvel Comics superhero. He first appeared in Captain Britain Weekly #1 (1976).
Chosen by Merlyn and his daughter Roma, Braddock was given the Amulet of Right and the Sword of Might, choosing the Amulet to become Captain Britain. This granted him superhuman abilities, primarily enhanced strength, speed, and durability.
As Captain Britain, he is tasked with upholding the laws of the United Kingdom and defending its people. He is a key member of the Captain Britain Corps, a multiversal group of Captain Britains from alternate realities, and has often been associated with teams like Excalibur.
Captain Britain has been rewritten and reimagined several times over the decades, most famously under the writing of Alan Moore. Though generally considered the most prominent version, other characters have held the mantle, including his sister Betsy Braddock who is the current holder of the role.
