Shay Patrick Cormac is a fictional character first appearing in the video game *Assassin's Creed Rogue*, released in 2014.
Born in New York, Shay began his career as a promising Assassin during the French and Indian War. He was initially dedicated to the Brotherhood, believing in their mission to protect free will. However, a disastrous mission involving a Precursor artifact in Lisbon, which resulted in a devastating earthquake, shattered his faith.
Haunted by the consequences of his actions and feeling betrayed by the Assassins' disregard for innocent lives, Shay steals a vital manuscript and flees. He is then hunted by his former Brotherhood. After an attempt on his life, Shay is rescued and taken in by Templars.
Turning against his former allies, Shay becomes a Templar himself, dedicating his life to hunting down Assassins and preventing them from acquiring other Precursor sites, thereby protecting the world from potential catastrophes. He believes he is now ensuring order and stability, even if it means sacrificing some freedom.
