Biography:
Black Mask, whose real name is Roman Sionis, first appeared in Batman #386 in 1985. He is a notorious Gotham City crime lord known for his obsession with masks.
Sionis inherited Janus Cosmetics after his parents died in a suspicious fire. He lacked the business acumen to run it, ultimately leading the company to near ruin and a takeover by Wayne Enterprises. Blaming Bruce Wayne for his misfortune, Sionis sought revenge.
His transformation into Black Mask occurred after he broke into his family's old mansion and accidentally fused a black ebony mask to his face. The mask amplifies his sadistic tendencies and fuels his vendetta against Batman and Gotham's elite.
