Doctor Otto Octavius, also known as Doctor Octopus, is a prominent Marvel Comics supervillain and adversary of Spider-Man.
Dr. Octavius was a brilliant nuclear physicist who designed a set of highly advanced mechanical arms to assist him in handling radioactive materials. These arms were controlled via a brain-computer interface.
During an experiment gone wrong, a radiation leak fused the arms to his body and damaged his brain. This resulted in Octavius becoming a criminal mastermind obsessed with proving his superior intellect and defeating Spider-Man.
His four powerful, prehensile, metal appendages grant him superhuman strength, agility, and control. Often leading to him being a formidable opponent.
Doctor Octopus has been a recurring villain in Spider-Man's rogues gallery and has even temporarily been a hero himself in the guise of the Superior Spider-Man, swapping bodies with Peter Parker.
