Doctor Octopus, often shortened to Doc Ock, is a prominent villain in the Spider-Man universe. First appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #3 (July 1963), the character's real name is Dr. Otto Octavius.

Octavius was once a brilliant nuclear physicist who invented a set of highly advanced, prehensile mechanical arms to assist him in handling radioactive materials. An accident during an experiment resulted in the arms being permanently fused to his body, and severely damaging his brain.

The accident warped Octavius's mind, transforming him into a criminal mastermind. Using his mechanical arms, he embarks on a life of crime and becomes one of Spider-Man's most formidable and recurring adversaries. He is often depicted as a physically imposing figure due to the strength and reach provided by his robotic appendages.
