Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty and the Happy Princess, is a prominent character from Disney's animated classic, *Sleeping Beauty* (1959), marking her first appearance.
She is a princess cursed by the evil fairy Maleficent to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die before her sixteenth birthday. To mitigate the curse, the good fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather alter it so she will merely fall into a deep sleep, awakenable only by true love's kiss.
Aurora is depicted as kind, graceful, and somewhat naive, raised in seclusion in a forest cottage by the three fairies under the name Briar Rose. The character has become a staple of the Disney Princess franchise, appearing in various media and merchandise, including a LEGO Mini-doll form.
