Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty, is a central character in Disney's animated film *Sleeping Beauty*. She first appeared in the 1959 movie of the same name.
As a baby, Princess Aurora was cursed by the evil fairy Maleficent, who declared that Aurora would prick her finger on a spinning wheel's spindle and die before sunset on her sixteenth birthday. To protect her, three good fairies, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, disguised themselves as peasant women and raised Aurora in a secluded forest cottage.
On her sixteenth birthday, Maleficent's curse is fulfilled. However, Merryweather softened the curse, so Aurora falls into a deep sleep instead of dying. She is awakened by a kiss from Prince Phillip, breaking the spell and defeating Maleficent. Aurora is one of the core Disney Princesses, a popular franchise of Disney characters.
