Buzz Lightyear, a prominent character within the Disney/Pixar universe, debuted in the 1995 film Toy Story as a toy space ranger. However, the 2022 film Lightyear presents a new perspective, depicting Buzz Lightyear as a dedicated and ambitious Space Ranger for Star Command.

In Lightyear, Buzz is stranded on a hostile planet alongside his commander and crew after a hyperspace test flight gone wrong. Driven by a sense of responsibility and a desire to correct his mistake, Buzz relentlessly attempts to achieve hyperspace velocity, leading to time-dilated test flights.
