Sonic the Hedgehog, a video game character created by Sega, first appeared in the game Sonic the Hedgehog on June 23, 1991. He is a blue anthropomorphic hedgehog known for his incredible speed.
As Sega's mascot, Sonic was designed to compete with Nintendo's Mario. His defining characteristic is his ability to run at supersonic speeds, often leaving a trail of blue wind in his wake.
In the original game, Sonic is tasked with defeating Dr. Robotnik (later known as Dr. Eggman), an evil scientist who seeks to conquer the world and turn animals into robots.
