Doctor Octopus, often shortened to Doc Ock, is a fictional supervillain appearing in Marvel Comics. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the character first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #3 (July 1963).

Otto Octavius was a brilliant physicist and nuclear researcher who designed a set of highly advanced robotic arms to assist him in handling radioactive materials. These arms were controlled via a neural interface.

An accident during an experiment resulted in the arms becoming permanently fused to his body and damaging his brain. This transformation warped his mind, turning him into a megalomaniacal criminal mastermind. With the robotic arms granting him superhuman strength and dexterity, he adopted the moniker Doctor Octopus and became one of Spider-Man's most formidable and enduring foes.
