Deadman, during the Blackest Night event, was a pivotal, if unwilling, participant. Originally Boston Brand, a circus trapeze artist murdered during a performance, he became a ghost capable of possessing the living.
During Blackest Night, Deadman's unique spectral nature made him valuable in understanding the threat of the Black Lantern Corps. His ability to possess bodies allowed him to briefly control Black Lanterns, gleaning information about their weaknesses and objectives from within.
However, the black rings intensely targeted Deadman, drawn to his connection to death. His incorporeal form provided little defense, and he found himself constantly battling against attempts to enslave him as a Black Lantern. Ultimately, his ability to navigate between life and death made him crucial to the heroes' fight against Nekron and the Black Lanterns. His possession of living heroes allowed them to target weaknesses and coordinate attacks within the seemingly unstoppable Corps.
