Red Guardian, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is a super-soldier alter ego employed by the Russian government. His real name is Alexei Shostakov.

He is portrayed by actor David Harbour.

Red Guardian's first appearance in the MCU was in the 2021 film *Black Widow*. The film explores his history with Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) and Yelena Belova, with whom he formed a makeshift family while undercover in the United States.

In *Black Widow*, he is an older version of the character, having spent time in a Russian prison. He remains immensely strong and has a strong belief in his own heroism, whether justified or not.
