DLP
Serial:
DLP9011
Year:
2015
Theme:
Marvel
Biography:
The Iron Man Mark XLII (Mark 42) is an armored suit designed and piloted by Tony Stark, as seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Iron Man 3. It is designated as a "Prodigal Son" armor prototype.
Unlike previous Iron Man suits, the Mark 42 is designed with a modular autonomous prehensile propulsion system. This allows it to assemble itself onto Stark remotely, piece by piece, responding to his mental commands. While innovative, this system proved somewhat unreliable, particularly in combat situations.
Visually, the Mark 42 is distinguished by its predominantly gold color scheme with silver plating on the torso and limbs. It represents a significant departure from the classic red and gold coloring of previous Iron Man armors.
The Mark 42 plays a key role in Iron Man 3, aiding Stark in his fight against the Mandarin and Aldrich Killian. Its experimental nature and occasional malfunctions provide both comedic moments and dramatic tension during the film's action sequences.
