Uchiha Itachi is a significant character in the anime series Naruto Shippuden. He first appears in the original Naruto anime, episode 81. He is portrayed as a complex figure with a tragic past.
Initially presented as an antagonist, Itachi is revealed to be a double agent who massacred his own clan to prevent a coup d'état that would have led to a Fourth Shinobi World War. He sacrificed his reputation and familial bonds to protect Konohagakure (Hidden Leaf Village).
Itachi joined the Akatsuki organization as a spy, gathering information and preventing them from attacking Konoha. His actions were motivated by a desire for peace and the protection of his younger brother, Sasuke, whom he deliberately left alive, intending for Sasuke to avenge the clan and become a hero.
