Biography:
Dr. Fate is a mantle taken up by several characters in DC Comics, primarily associated with magic and order. The original Dr. Fate was Kent Nelson, son of archaeologist Sven Nelson.
Kent was psychically linked to Nabu, a Lord of Order from the planet Cilia, after witnessing Nabu awaken from suspended animation within a tomb. Nabu, who had been trapped in a golden helmet, merged his essence with Kent, training him in the mystic arts. By donning the Helmet of Nabu, Amulet of Anubis, and Cloak of Destiny, Kent transforms into Dr. Fate, a powerful sorcerer.
Dr. Fate first appeared in *More Fun Comics* #55 (May 1940). Though Kent Nelson is the most well-known, others have taken on the role, each with their own interpretation of the Fate persona.
