The first game in the franchise was released on June 23, 1991 (also Sonic's birthday) in order to provide Sega with a mascot to rival Nintendo's flagship character Mario. Since then, Sonic has become one of the world's best-known video game characters, with his series having sold over 44 million copies.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a video game character and the primary protagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise from Sega. He's an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog known for his incredible speed and cocky attitude.

Sonic first appeared in the video game Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991 for the Sega Genesis. Created to rival Nintendo's Mario, Sonic quickly became Sega's mascot. He is typically depicted as a hero fighting against the villainous Dr. Eggman (also known as Dr. Robotnik) and his schemes for world domination.

Sonic's abilities include running at supersonic speeds, utilizing the Spin Attack, and transforming into Super Sonic when he collects the Chaos Emeralds. He is often accompanied by his friends, including Miles "Tails" Prower and Knuckles the Echidna, as they embark on adventures and battles.
