In the Marvel Cinematic Universe adjacent animated series, What If...?, T'Challa of Wakanda is not Star-Lord.

Instead, after Yondu Udonta's Ravagers mistakenly abduct Peter Quill, they are assigned to pick up T'Challa but accidentally abduct Peter Quill instead. As Star-Lord, T'Challa helps to save many worlds and is a better Star-Lord than Peter Quill.

This version of T'Challa possesses the same inherent qualities seen in other iterations of the character, including exceptional intellect, martial prowess, and leadership skills, only without the Black Panther mantle.
