Hector Ayala was the first Marvel Comics character to bear the mantle of White Tiger. A Puerto Rican man from New York City, Ayala discovered three mystical tiger amulets that granted him enhanced strength, speed, agility, and senses when worn.
Adopting the identity of the White Tiger, Ayala fought crime in New York City, often crossing paths with heroes like Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Luke Cage. He was driven by a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect his community.
His superhero career was complex. While effective, the amulets had a corrupting influence, making him increasingly aggressive and detached from his personal life. He eventually relinquished the amulets to his friend, initially seeking to be free of the power and its negative effects.
Tragically, Ayala was later framed for murder and, despite being innocent, was fatally shot while attempting to escape custody. His legacy continues through other characters who have taken up the White Tiger mantle, most notably his sister, Ava Ayala.
